Under Armour empowers customers in more than 100 countries with performance solutions that make them better athletes. But, in 2020, the company found itself in need of its own high-performance solution to serve customers in Brazil. They looked to VTEX’s composable and complete commerce platform to form the foundation of a feature-rich customer experience, and to fuel ecommerce growth in the region.

Commerce Strategy Inspired by Performance

Under Armour was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank with a vision to serve athletes worldwide. As the company has evolved and refined its mission, a strong focus on inspiring performance has emerged. Christiano Coelho, General Manager at Under Armor Brazil, shared, ”We believe we have a mission to serve consumers and to inspire them through sports, whether in training, running, basketball, golf—any sport. Anyone who believes that sports can make you better is an inspiration for us.”

Under Armour has its sights set on growth, looking to increase the size and relevance of its business in strategic markets. To accomplish that growth, the company is focused on developing relevance and deep solutions in categories that most effectively serve their consumers - training, running, basketball, women's sports, and versatile performance.

Additionally, one of their key strategic priorities in Brazil is to evolve and grow ecommerce on UA.com. Demand for the Under Armour brand in Brazil is increasing, so a strong digital strategy is key to providing those customers with the products they want.

“We believe there is an amazing opportunity to explore new ways to give consumers access through our digital platforms. We are constantly thinking about how we can try new things and innovate.”

Christian Coelho,General Manager at Under Armor Brazil

The Power of a Flexible Platform

In 2020, Under Armour chose VTEX as the platform to support ecommerce operations in Brazil. They chose VTEX because of its composable and complete structure, which allowed the company to create both operational efficiency and an outstanding customer experience. Using the site’s flexible architecture, the Under Armour team and its partners were able implement a variety of features including customized shipping times, integrations with local partners to streamline return and exchange processes, and a wider variety of payment options.

The results of this digital transformation have been remarkable. Migration to VTEX as part of their digital strategy has led to more than 35% growth in ecommerce performance for Under Armour in the Brazil market. Along with that outstanding growth, the architecture designed and implemented by VTEX has laid the groundwork for Under Armour to launch omnichannel operations. Integration between ecommerce and physical stores will enable greater agility in stock management, infinite shelf strategies, and options like click-and-collect or ship-from-store.

The advantages offered by VTEX’s composable and complete solution have allowed Under Armour to create a safer, more fluid, and more complete customer experience from browsing to post-purchase.  For Under Armour, this migration marked an important step toward harmony between its technology and business goals, and set them on the path toward true strategic performance gains.
